Andreia Sofia Oliveira Garcia

Andreia Garcia is an architect, curator, editor, researcher and university professor. Her path has been defined by an architectural practice that expands the disciplinary intersection with complementary areas. Her interests focus on the contemporary practice of architecture in an era marked by strong technological advances and a progressive ecological crisis. She is the founder of the Architectural Affairs studio, founder and director of the Art (e) facts Knowledge Biennial, and co-founder of the Architecture Gallery, an independent space for reflection and debate on Architecture, City and Territory. She earned her PhD in Architecture from the Faculty of Architecture at the University of Lisbon in 2015. Manuel Tainha Prize, for the best dissertation in the 2014/2015 PhD in Architecture. Her work was selected for the Prémis FAD (Spain, 2018, 2019 and 2020) and Dezeen Awards (England, 2019); BigMAT award finalist (France, 2019); winner of the LEONARDO prize (Belarus, 2019); Honorable Mention HÄUSER Award (Germany, 2020), nominated for the Mies van der Rohe Award 2022, and published in international speciality magazines. She was a Guest Assistant Professor at the School of Architecture at the University of Minho and a studio tutor at the Architectural Association, in London. She was invited to teach Architecture at the Polytechnic University of Madrid (ETSAM) and University of Valladolid (UVa), São Paulo (Brazil), Vilnius Academy of Arts (Lithuania), and Amman School of Architecture (Jordan). She is an Assistant Professor and Vice-President of the Faculty of Engineering at the University of Beira Interior. In 2022 she was appointed curator of the Official Portuguese Representation at the 18th International Architecture Exhibition La Biennale di Venezia 2023 — Fertile Futures.
